How will this program affect my Employment Insurance benefits?
Those individuals receiving EI benefits or who have had an EI claim in the last three years have priority in registering for the SCC program. If you are filling out report cards, you do not report this as a training program or a course, since it is assumed that you are still actively looking for work during this short ten day program. You will receive further information on the first day of class.

Is there homework at SCC?
Although there is no homework per se, participants are expected to participate fully each day and to contribute with their knowledge and experience. Participants are expected to develop oral presentations to deliver to the class. Also, participants will be required to write a brief executive summary of their future business. They will be assisted in this process.

What types of support services are provided during and after the program?
Each participant who completes the program can expect to receive three hours of business consultation with a specialized business consultant(s) who is matched with the client's area of expertise to discuss what the graduate still needs to launch a successful business. There is ongoing mentoring and support for up to six months after completing the program. We have seen friendships and partnerships develop amongst the participants and an exchange of services and sub contracting opportunities occur after graduation. Participants are also welcome to take advantage of the office services (fax, Internet, telephone, photocopier) while attending the course. We also have a complete updated student directory which can be used for networking opportunities.
